Who We Are

A small sponsorship idea grew into a wider commitment to children, education and family wellbeing in Sri Lanka.

Our mission

Education and nutrition can change a life.

One Child Foundation was formed after the war in Sri Lanka ended. It was founded by a small group of friends and family members keen to help orphaned and destitute children. The initial aim was to provide funds from their own earnings and sponsor a handful of children.

As more friends and family joined, the number of children supported grew. Today, the charity continues to benefit children through corporate support, private donations, individual sponsorships and the commitment of its Trustees.

Our mission: Relieve childhood hunger among destitute children in Sri Lanka and offer education as the most effective way to escape their cycle of deprivation.
Children in Sri Lanka
Our aim

Practical help, built around children.

Our support combines nutrition, education and family resilience so that children have a stronger foundation for the future.

Nutrition

Up to December 2017, the Foundation helped feed more than 11,500 children in over 100 schools every school day. The focus later shifted toward nutritional meals for pre-school children in the Eastern Province.

Family resilience

Projects have included a vegetable farm, cattle for an orphanage and 211 chicken coops provided to parents of sponsored children.

Education

In 2018, the Foundation funded 224 schoolchildren and four university students. The existing site reports support for 298 students, including eight at university.

For every child: The Foundation states that it has no religious, ethnic or communal preference in choosing children to help — “They are all children. They are all our children.”
